HISTORY

Our Lady of Grace Montessori School was established in 1968 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Sister Felicitas Ryan, an educational consultant and member of the leadership team of the IHM

Congregation, knew that the gift of this property, from the J. Peter Grace Family, was destined to become a school based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori.

Our Lady of Grace Montessori School and Center is incorporated and chartered by the New York Board of Regents and sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our School is certified by the New York State Education Department, and a full member of  the American Montessori Society.

Our philosophy is rooted in Legacy

Dr. Maria Montessori was a visionary educator who believed in the unlimited possibilities every child possesses. She espoused that with the right atmosphere, developmentally appropriate materials and trained adults who were willing to take the journey of discovery alongside their young charges, the role of education “is to interest the child profoundly in an external activity to which he will give all of his potential.”

Nearly one hundred years after founding her first classroom, “Casadei Bambini,” Dr. Montessori’s life’s work has become an educational legacy recognized around the world for its innovative approach to learning.
